Solenoid info / help required! re LO-VOL
« on: March 04, 2008, 08:31:58 PM »
hi....lo-vols new 'ancient' owner here!...(Russ knows what i mean....squeez it outta him!!)....yes life as its ups and downs!.....but at the moment ...mine doesnt!!
Soon as i crossed russ's sweaty palm with the 'printed' notes, bet he aint noticed yet!.....and the motor had breathed its Northern air!......the solenoids bunrt out!!
hmm...maybe he remotely caused them to fail!.....so he did notice the notes eh!
So help is now needed from your good selves!.....several questions require urgent answers....to help me sleep!
Where can i get a replacement 'ACCURATE USA' solenoid/s.?...apart from the obvious USA!.....if none over in uk, can a direct replacement be found?......Anyone using or can a single 12v operated / 36 volt solenoid be used?.....the 3 solenoid setup seems a weak link...(3 batts / 36v per motor).....theres so much amperage going through them and the interconnecting nuts, that theres bound to be problems over time!, as can be seen by the colour of the solenoid set-ups!....and the fact that when i stripped the solenoid  the contacts where 'melted' like butter!
finally...who is left / how many are doing hydraulics for help or spare parts in uk!....several companies i have tried....seem to have given up!
Any tips i can use for mot....when tester scratches his head......looks up testers manual and says......i cant have a system like this on a road car!....
And my many mates....all 1 of him!....asked ....if using system as i travelled, would i get pulled...my answer was a definate yes....but can anyone confirm it .....with a 'costly' story to tell!
thats it for now...but...i'll be back!!!....its something my budgie says!
raaaaaaaaaaaaay!
ps......seems i  dont have even one mate anymore.... cos i bought 'another' volvo!!!

the sols are available over here, i beleive fd has some for sale,il have some on ebay in the near future.the setup with the joining nuts will be fine, its the cleanest way to link them. As for the law its mainly down to opinion. in theory its just variable ride height but the police might not see it that way, ive had no problems in my previous cars (juiced mercs) but i aint got my mc out properly yet.

Volvo lowriders are awesome!  I have your lo-vol's older brother on my driveway; a lo-vol 240 (I also bought mine off Russ  ). I'm in Preston most of the time now, so not far from you I believe? Might be nice to meet up with the bouncy volvo's (when I can afford to tax/insure it, that is!)

li'l Russ

you can use one sol per pump [HD 24v ones]....
the only reason for using multi banks is so when one sticks you have some saftey back up built in.

as you have seen they get a lot of stick switching pumps in this "lowrider" sitution.
if you run one and it sticks you have to be VERY quick with the earth disconnect to avoid a fire.
if one of a bank sticks [and hopefully you notice when you regularly check them!!] you still have two others protecting your investment  :)
