educate me! vol-lo-vo
« on: March 10, 2008, 05:48:30 PM »
hi...now vol-lo-vo...(lo-vol) is sat on drive awaiting pre mot work....questions about the system have come to mind!....and by asking here, i figure others who maybe haven't got a 'lowrider' yet....may become the wiser!....

at what stage does one stop using the system .....eg draining batteries!....right till death?....or when showing signs of slowing!

will there be another sign....eg clicking of solenoids / other?

has anyone done a voltage check, individually, on the batteries, when it has become apparent for a recharge!....

this info would give me an idea of when mine are due for charge!...out of interest i'd like to know what they drop to!

when i use car....and i drop onto the accumulators,.....by activating switch.....do i leave switch 'on'.....or switch off, after activation?....

whilst mentioning accumulators.....is the ride postion adjustable?....or set on installation?

is it ill-advsed to leave vehicle in a raised position.....or is there a reasonable time you can?...

is the system fully sealed, and no leaks whatsoever should be present??...

after any remedial work.....does the fluid system self bleed?

anyone suggest a good oil to use?...   as i read there are specialist oils ......eg with additives for prolonged system life!....and to to stop corrosion etc.....

name of supplier?....

I want to be wiser!!.....answers appreciated!!....over to those that know!...so that i may know ...what you know....so when i know......i can tell those i know!!!!!

vol-lo-vo......

I always charge mine when it shows signs of slowing down, don't run them right down "till death" because you could get sticking sols and the risk of a fire.

The acc's only work when energized so leave the switch ON when you want the susspension to work like a normal car. Think of it as "soft or crunchy", soft for regular driving and crunchy for clowning around. With the switch OFF you've got no damping affect so the hydro's move alot faster, when it's ON the hydro's seem slower and more spongy.
You can still flick switches with the acc's on so the ride height can be set to whatever you want.

Yes it's sealed there should be no leaks but some weaping around the ram seals is not uncommon.

I've got away with changing hoses and not having to bleed it but i'm lazy. If there is air in the system, it can usually be solved by letting it stand over night with the filler caps removed from the tanks.
Don't use oil with detergent in it, I use 32 grade commercial hydraulic oil because i can rob it from work but i think a thinner grade is better.  Someone on here will be able to tell you what to use when they correct my mistakes  :)

pretty well cover there chops................

donr need to got thinner than 30 wt in UK climate.
DONT use past slow down point .............. you WILL get fire at some point .

no limit on "raised" time  but fot lonf durations it is best to leave it down [keeps rods clean and relieves loads from seals/acc bladders]
Most things improve with age................
