oh dear
« on: April 02, 2008, 09:48:41 AM »
:o
box went on the Audi last week.
Tiptronic, just stopped driving while driving. Re-started and horrendous noise. Box place reckons the shift solenoids did something weird and tried to select 2 gears at once on restart.

its totalled [case too bad for rebuild] and new one is £3.5k
so thats that................................................

luckily i have a Mondeo [ :( , I know but practical for baby seat etc etc] that I bought for Sarah but havnt taken to her yet, so using that for a bit. dont know what to do now tho.

spend alot of time on audi forums to and auto/tip boxes seem to be a comman weak spot.

On the a8 the 4 speed one fairs really well and the 5 speed ones,..... well don't   ... guess what i've got?  :?

what audi/year/engine/box is it iain. If your interested in a second hand one i'll ask around?

did it give any indication/act,sound different before it gave out?

Oh bummer. This week has been bad for lots of people! How about claiming off insurance if fully comp? Or a secondhand unit? I might be able to put you in touch with Andy Frost in Wolverhampton who mostly does auto transmissions but could shed some light? He's built my TH400 and does a lot of modern boxes. Also happens to own the world's fastest street car 8)

i've found two s/h boxes with the same Audi code but the damm things are so ECU specific that thye have to have the exact same ZF make number as well or the car needs to be reflashed at an Audi dealer after fitting.
Cost will just be too high at the end of the job....................
