Paint
« on: April 27, 2008, 07:30:09 AM »
Ive asked this Q before, but Im still unclear about this.................Ive been quoted, what to me ,seems high prices to do this, so was thinking of DIY ing it...............
i want to paint the roof of my Benz. It will involve masking up small panels .
Do I Rub the whole roof down /degrease,then mask up ?..If so ,how do I restore the original paint between the newly painted panels after I remove the tape?
Will I get away with rattle cans?
Is there some sort of primer/sealer available in cans that I can seal the existing paint with to make the surface compatible to the new top coat?
Am I completely out of my depth here? If so ,and I need to get someone more experienced to do this ,I would really like to help them do it ,to see how its done . Anyone want this job??? :)

Wash ,degrease, wet flat/scotch,degrease,mask,degrease,tack,degrease,multiple layers of colour instead of one or two heavy,

De mask, clear lacquer (with flake if desired,)

Practice on an old wing/fridge door.

should only take a day/weekend.

The difference between a good job and a sh1te job if prep prep prep.

Or rub the dirt off with a wire brush an hit it with the satin black....................It takes about 3 hours, half a case of beer and 10 rattle cans to do a Dodge pick-up.

..............I'll get my coat
