tyre / wheel sizing advice..
« on: June 24, 2008, 10:28:01 AM »
help me techie people..

as part of my evil plan I need to know if I can i stretch a 225 width tyre onto a 15 x 8" rim or if thats asking for trouble?..

Ive had a look on some manufacturers websites, and they say 7.5" max rim width for a 225 tyre..   Thing is 8" = around 203mm so Im thinking it should be ok and prob wouldn't be that much of a stretch, but I don't fully understand whether the 8" rim width refers to the same measurement as the 225mm tyre width..

Also, can I stretch a 205 width tyre onto a 7" rim?..  Im looking at 7"front / 8" rear set-up and thinking a near-equal stretch front and rear (ie 205 front/225 rear) would be better than running 225's all around..

..hope someone can help!

f**k!..  I don't feel so bad about 205's on a 7" and 225's on an 8" now...      ...although you have got me thinking whether I should go with 8's and 9's instead
I will have a measure up of the standard wheels and see how much more width and negative offset I can handle without arch mods ;)

155/80x13 on a 7" rim all day so a 225 shouldnt be a problem

I've a 225/35 on a 10", a 225 on an 8 won't be any stretch at all.

Used to run 175 50 13 on 7j with plenty stretch no worries.

For stretch to look good on an 8 would go for something like a 185 dude, just depends how far you wanna go.

cheer's guys..  im not bothered about having a big stretch for looks, im just struggling to find anything much wider than a 225 in R15 (without the cost doubling) and wanted to make sure they'd fit on an 8" or 9" rim ok; the tyre manufacturers seem to be quite conservative!..
