Soft top help..
« on: October 02, 2008, 08:23:30 AM »
Does anyone know of a company that can build a soft top from scratch?
I have a friend with an Apal speedster (356 rep) which needs a new roof and we're struggling to find anyone who could make one (the company no longer exists, and after years in the sun the current one isn't even close to fitting right, despite 12mo of stretching! )
Any help would be appreciated
B :)

Hi Ben
Well,I'd say any good car upholstery shop could do it ,but I dont reckon it would be cheap! If they havent got the old one to use as a sort of template ,it cant be difficult   for them to make templates.Reckon you'd have to take the car to them to get a nice fit tho'!........I built a basic top for my Locost ,albeit in cheapo vinyl, but it wasnt difficult ,so a good upholsterere should be OK.                                                                                                                                                                       ................just my 2p......
Grew up with Hot Rods,Ed Roth and Gasser Wars.
Grew into Low &Slow,Sleds, and 2-doors

cheers rod..  money's not an issue (they have a 911, and two proper 356's aswell as the apal!! ) so i think they want to have a decent job done on this car; it will finish it off nicely..
they have the orginal roof, however its stretched a bit so doesnt fit around the windows. I guess someone would be able to take that and modify it to work, but im not sure..
