Wiring up the Pump and Batteries
« on: January 13, 2007, 04:08:44 PM »
Hi I've just bought a hydrolic kit off someone and im stummed on how to wire it up. I've got as far as making it click and clunk (sounds like solinoids) and starting to smoke a bit so i gave up. Below is a diagram of how its set up in my boot minus the wires, would it be possible for one of you to add the wires in the way its ment to be?. The wires that come out of the control box are red, yellow( go to the same block connector)Blue,White and black. :?

I have the wiring of the batteries done, but need help how to wire up the solinoids, Its a simple front and rear separate system, and need help wiring up,also both swtiches pushed up, make the pump go up, and then the switches control the down motion independantly front and rear.

Cheers for any help  Jake :D

I'm not seeing any dump valves on that drawing...do you have any? Or are they intergral to the pump?

ok.....
you have two batteries so they need to be wired to give 24v......... + on one to - on the other, - on end one to earth [preferably through a disconnect of some sort] and the + on the end of the pair to one big terminal of your solenoids [you want two in series for safety].
the other big terminal on the solenoid goes to the pump motor terminal.

you need 12v going into your switchbox [take from the middle of your pair of batteries] to the centre poleon each switch.
to lift front and back [you cant do it seperatley with the system you have] run a wire from each switch [you can work out which is up and down with a meter once you have 12v at the switches] to a small terminal on both solenoids. depending on the type of solenoids you may need a seperate earth on each as well.
that sorts the lift side of things.

from the drop side of a switch you run a wire to one wire on a dump valve [black coil on the ally blocks ontop of your pump]. the other wire on the coil needs earthing.
repeat this for the other switch and dump.

Note......... with the system you have you can drop each end seperatley but not lift seperately.
When lifting the lightest end of the car will lift first so you need to hold the switch until the heavy end is at the right height then drop the light end.

don't worry about the colors,  it's where they go that counts!.  In this example green and purple go to the dump valves,  one for front and one for back.

Hope this helps.

I think some of the wiring going to your solinoids may not be needed, only one of the little terminals is connected to on each solinoid.

( cant remember if it's I or S though)
this has 24v switching, just change the red wire in the center of the switches to 12v if you wish.

Sounds like you've either got a stuck solenoid or a sticking switch.
Hold the switch to dump and connect the power back up,does the motor still spin? The car shouldn't move at this point because you are allowing the fluid to return. If you connect the power and aren't holding the switch, is the car lifting?
Check to see you haven't got your power feed to the switch touching one of the other contacts on the switch.

Yeah i leave the control switches on the seat and when i connect it up the car rises.

[quote:3rsw7wkx]Sounds like you've either got a stuck solenoid or a sticking switch[/quote]

There was one time last night when I earthed it I got a big spark from the earthing point but the motor diddn't work untill i used the switch.

[quote:3rsw7wkx]Hold the switch to dump and connect the power back up,does the motor still spin[/quote]

Yea the motor spins but the car stay still.

Ill try some more in a min as the batteries have just died!

Cheers guys

one of your solenoids has stuck... common causes are poor earthing of the solenoids [yours dont look too clean!] and running with flat batteries.

fit a new pair, making sure that they are bolted to CLEAN metal that is well connected to the earth point of your system batteries.
When playing STOP as soon as you sense the batteries start to drop.........DONT carry on until they are flat

I think the batteries are knackered and the solinoids click but the pump does nothing now. :x

You're more than welcome.

Make sure all your contacts are clean and tight and as FatDaddy says make sure that every ground connection is 100% ( including the pump itself to the rack.)
