first off to say hi to you all .

I was pointed in your direction by another forum i am a member of.

first off i need someone in the nottingham area to give me a helping hand to repair or replace a 24v electric pump fitted to my disabled missus bath ,
the company its off say they cant repair it or replace it and it will cost her £5000 for a new bath, well that aint gonna happen so i need a hand to get the thing working properly for her.

it goes up ok but wont come down without a lot of force , plus it leaks oil .
any help would be greatly welcome thanks .

I actually work as a mobility engineer and may be able to assist you. First and fore most can you inform me of the make/ model and year of manufacture of the lift in question? Secondly if its the case of needing to replace the bath lift i can supply depending on the overall useage of the lift in maycases you could replace it with a newer batery powered bath lift @ around £700 + postage. If the lift is older than 9-10 years old it could be the case that parts for fixing it aint on the shelf no more and thats why they cant fix it.

hi , its not a lift its a bath complete , the bath comes up around 4 rams with a platform on top,  so the water comes around you not you lowered into the water,  its a small electric pump thats the problem , i was wondering if any 24v electric pump would do it , as i am no hydrolic wiz i dont know but i do have some knowledge.

the maker is abacus healthcare and they just want to sell us a new one at £5000 and that is not acceptable . our bath is close to the pisces model.
I hate the way the disability trade make so much money from unfortunate people.

cheers.

A bit of lateral thinking ere so bear with me,

The problem is a 24v electric pump right??

So why not try a auto sparky who does hgv's??

Maybe a tail lift motor would work??

'I hate the way the disability trade make so much money from     unfortunate people. '

I hear this all the time and its so so wrong for people to make this assumption!

If you called out a plumber to travel out and fix something in your house you would have to pay £'s for this service, same goes for an electrician or even just having somebody at a garage fix your car. I belive that most people are under the impression that if you are disabled you should be intitled to things cheaper or free which is not the case.

Belive it or not most mobility companies dont make much on a product ie a stairlift or any other product for that matter, they just about brake even in most cases. Although saying that some companies sell you a product that you dont really need and then charge a extortionate amount of money for it.I dont really know what sort of problems the person in question has but i can bet my bottom dollar you have been miss sold that product and you could have been sold some thing much cheaper that could do the same job without giving you loads of problems.

I CANT SEE WHY THE 24V MOTOR IS FAULTY AS IT GOES UP, IF THE BATH GOES UP BUT NOT DOWN AND IT IS ON HYDRAULICS THEN IT'LL HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE RETURN VALVE ON THE RAMS SET UP RETURNING THE FLUID TO THE RESEVOIR. IF ITS LEAKING THEN IT MIGHT BE A BLOCKAGE SOMEWHERE AND THE PRESURE IS FORCING THE FLUID OUT OF ANOTHER WEAKER POINT IE THE RAM SEALS.

Just looking at that bath scares me  so ive never seen one but just by looking at it i can see that firstly youve gotta say good by to your old bathroom tub and totally replace it

Next looks like you have to kinda slide onto the platform and hold yourself up as the back support looks to be non existent , most disabled persons need a really good back support to make them feel supported.

So for around 1/5 of the price of that product you could have purchased a removable battery lift that can simply slip in or out of you original tub and that has huge back and side supports.

The thing is now that because now you have this complete bath and lift fitted in your bathroom its either pay loads to fix it or or pay loads to have it removed and put your bathroom back the way it was and purchase a new lifting product £££££'s.

THIS COMPANY HAVE GOT YOU BY THE SHORT AND CURLIES!!! NO WONDER YOUR HACKED OFF!!

I dont assume I know from experiance, you get what you pay for but some things just aint worth the money charged for them, but I have found most disabled items are over charged, NO we dont think we should get things for free but being priced so they can be afforded my most disabled is farer.

the bath is perfect for my misus as she has no legs after a artic ran her over 14 years ago, its not by choice she is in a wheelchair but choices are made to stop wheelchair uses from doing things, america is way ahead on this than we are.

cheers for the help .
